A new IRPP book — authored by the researchers who led British Columbia’s Expert Panel on Basic Income — offers one of the most comprehensive evaluations of a basic income and its application ever undertaken. It uses that evaluation as the basis for an investigation into Canada’s social safety net and how to improve it. The authors show that a basic income would be complex, costly and generally less effective than reforming the existing system.
